Nepal earthquake may have shrunk Mount Everest say scientists

The severe earthquake which hit central Nepal on 25 April may have reduced or increased the height of Mount Everest, according to scientists from the US Geological Survey. Large earthquakes frequently cause permanent changes to height of terrain, and data from the GPS base station close to the mountain is now being analysed to see if the world’s tallest mountain is taller or shorter after the devastating tremor.
