Pamplona squashes idea for reality ‘running bulls’ TV show

Spain’s state TV channel has ditched a proposal to launch a celebrity reality TV show based on Pamplona’s controversial San Fermin running of the bulls fiesta. The show would have seen celebrities running through the streets being chased by a group of half-tonne fighting bulls in the same way that the bulls run through the streets of Pamplona during the fiesta. The festival, held annually in July, has become infamous for causing injuries among participants. The TV show idea has enraged bull-fighting supporters’ clubs as well as Pamplona’s mayor, who said the government was working hard to change the image of the fiesta to give it ‘more artistic and cultural value’ and a reality TV show would only damage the fiesta’s image further.
