Thailand celebrates Songkran with world's biggest water fight

Thailand’s New Year festival officially begins on Monday, with visitors advised to embrace the inevitability of getting wet should they choose to venture outside. Often referred to as the world’s biggest water fight, Songkran is a three-day festival during which revellers splash water on each other – by any means possible. Sadly, the seven days surrounding the festival mark the most dangerous time of the year to be on the road in Thailand, with almost 200 traffic accident deaths reported across the nation since last Thursday.
