New smog alert system for Chinese cities

The largest cities in China will soon be getting regular smog forecasts. The country’s Ministry for Environmental Protection has created a system that will render smog forecasts for the coming few hours, as well as several days in advance. The system will produce reports for China’s major municipalities (Shanghai, Beijing, Chongqing and Tianjin) as well as every provincial capital. The new system comes amid increasing pollution awareness, especially as China bids to host the 2022 Winter Olympic Games. Read more: shanghaiist.com
