Warning about travel to within 15km of parts of Kenya's coast

The UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) has increased its travel advisory for Kenya, warning against ‘all but essential travel’ to within 15km of Kenya’s coast from Tiwi north to Tana River. The elevated status relates to a high threat from terrorism, including kidnapping. The stretch includes Mombasa Island, Moi International Airport, Malindi, Kilifi and Watamu. The FCO noted that visitors currently in these areas without an ‘essential reason’ to remain should leave leave. Popular parts of the coast south of Mombasa are not included in the latest advisory – these include Diani Beach, Ukunda airport, Msambweni, Funzi Island, Shimoni and Wasini Island.
