Russia’s Sakhalin Island ski resort shuts because of bears on slopes
A ski resort on Russia’s Sakhalin Island closed three runs on the weekend as a precaution because of bears on the slopes. Some holidaymakers spotted a female bear with cubs at the Gorny Vozdukh resort, and the safety officers discovered animal tracks in the snow. According to the Ministry of Forestry and Hunting, the bears have come out of hibernation a month earlier than usual due to the unusually warm weather on Sakhalin Island this year.
