Tajikistan building brand new desert city from scratch for population of 250,000

Tajikistan has begun construction on a brand new city in the north part of the country. Named Saihoon after a nearby river, the city will cover around 14,000 hectares of desert with an additional 7,000 hectares for orchards. With a capacity for around 250,000 residents, Saihoon will include 19 residential areas, numerous schools, shopping centres and bazaars. Read more: rferl.org
