Switzerland’s Kunstmuseum in Basel has lent 170 masterpieces to the Reina Sofía modern art museum in Madrid for an unprecedented exhibition led by 10 Picassos. The haul includes works by Kandinsky, Van Gogh, Giacometti, Gauguin, Cézanne, Monet, Rothko, Klee, Munch, Warhol, Chagall, Mondrian and Modigliani, and it will be the first time many of the pieces have left Switzerland. The art has been loaned to Reina Sofía while the Kunstmuseum is closed for refurbishment. The exhibition launches on Wednesday (18 March) and runs until 14 September. From July, the show will include the world’s most expensive painting: Gauguin’s When Will You Marry?, bought recently by a Qatari gallery for $275 million. Read more:elpais.com
