Nepal tourist arrivals drop due to blizzards, air safety and ‘casino effect’

The number of tourists visiting Nepal in 2014 dropped by 0.3% compared to the preceding year, with government officials blaming a series of deadly mountain disasters, as well as European Community warnings about air safety in Nepal and the temporary closure of the nation’s casinos. A particular surprise was the 35% drop in visitor numbers from India, one of the main markets for Nepal’s casino industry, but visitor numbers from China increased by nearly 18% in the same period.
