Matador Madonna slammed for glamourising Spanish bullfighting

Animal rights activists are in uproar over Madonna’s gore-glamourising stage performance as the music star announces a Barcelona date on her upcoming tour. In her recent stage shows, including the ill-fated Brit Awards performance where she fell down a flight of stairs, Madonna dons the corrida that matadors wear during Spain’s traditional bullfights and her dancers dress as bulls. Critics, including the animal rights group PETA, have been angered by the theme, which they say glamourises the gory historical practice. Bullfighting has been banned in Catalonia, where Barcelona is located, since 2011 because of its treatment of the bulls, who can suffer a slow painful death in the ring.
