Change to Munich's tram bells causes alarm

Transport purists in Munich are reportedly displeased at the introduction of an electronic bell on a fleet of new trams in the city. For years, traditional bells have been rung by tram drivers in the Bavarian city to alert pedestrians to the vehicles, which often share the walkways with those on foot. But the new Siemens trams, which were introduced last autumn, play a ‘sampled’ bell sound instead, apparently ruffling some feathers among the more traditionally minded. Transport chiefs have played down the claims,  though, saying that they have yet to receive any official complaints. Read more: thelocal.de
