Legal marijuana arrives in Washington DC

As of Thursday, it becomes legal to possess small amounts of marijuana in Washington, DC. The ballot measure, Initiative 71, came into effect at 12:01am EST after last minute wranglings between district officials and the US Congress as to whether the measure was lawful. Smoking in public is still prohibited but the new law means adults can possess up to two ounces of marijuana and grow six plants. It is now legal to possess pot in three US states – Colorado, Washington state, and Alaska – as well as the capital. Read more: reuters.com
