New Zealand rescuers refloat beached pilot whales

Of the almost 200 pilot whales that were beached on New Zealand’s South Island last week, 140 died but around 60 were able to be refloated and sent back on course. Hundreds of conservationists and experts rushed to help the giant mammals. The volunteers worked through the night to keep the whales covered and hydrated until they were able to be lead back to safety on the high tide. The Department of Conservation warned that there was a chance the whales may return as has been the case in the past. Read more: edition.cnn.com
