Authorities warn of potential disaster as Albania hit by floods
Albania has been hit by the second-worst floods ever recorded in the country. The flooding was caused by heavy rainfall and exacerbated by factors such as deforestation, soil erosion and old dam reservoirs. So far the authorities have resisted declaring a state of emergency, but they have warned of a potential disaster due to weather forecasts which predict heavy rains will continue.
