Swiss Alps avalanche death toll climbs to 11

A woman has died overnight after she was seriously injured and buried by an avalanche on the weekend at Piz Vilán in Graubünden in the Swiss Alps. She is the fifth person to die from the avalanche that swept a group of eight skiers down the mountain who were skiing off-piste. Another man fell off a cliff in Wildhaus in the canton of Saint Gallen on Saturday while two other men were killed by avalanches in the Bernese Oberland, one skiing off-piste and the other a snowboarder. Three more off-piste skiers had died on Thursday and Friday. Read more: thelocal.ch
