Shanghai Pudong airport to get new runway

A fourth runway will soon open at Shanghai’s Pudong International Airport. Work has been underway to build the new runway since 2012, it will open in March. Work has already started on a fifth runway, as well as a new 119-gate satellite terminal. Authorities and passengers alike have expressed hope that the new runway will alleviate traffic stresses and delays that have plagued the airport in recent months. It was also announced this week that Shanghai’s transport authorities are considering implementing an express rail service to connect Pudong to the city’s other airport, Hongqiao. In 2014, Pudong airport handled more than 50 million passengers, and capacity is expected to increase to 60 million with the new facilities. Read more: shanghaidaily.com
