Two million baby eels found in luggage in Bulgaria

Two million live baby eels, hidden in luggage, have been seized by Bulgaria’s customs officials at the Sofia airport. Two Chinese travellers en route from Madrid tried to smuggle them declaring them as food items. Their worth is estimated to be several thousand euros. The European eel is an endangered species and its sale is regulated by the EU. The seized baby eels have been taken in by a rescue centre at an aquarium in Varna, Bulgaria. Read more: bbc.co.uk
