Maldives plans for world’s lowest lying racing track

The government of the Maldives is reportedly considering plans to construct a racing track on Hulhumale, the reclaimed island attached to Maldives’ international airport. Part of a government initiative to deter disaffected youths from resorting to crime and drugs, the race track will be large enough to host international events. There are many hurdles to overcome before the track gets the green light, not least a shortage of motor vehicles on the islands, but the government has already doubled the area of reclaimed land on Hulhumale, which stands just two metres above sea level.
