Deadliest year on record for South Africa rhinos

Last year was the most deadly for rhinos in South Africa on record, with 1215 poached, a staggering 21% increase on the previous year. The famed Kruger National Park was the site of more than two-thirds of the killings. Each of the past few years has seen new records set, with the illegal trade in rhino horn being fuelled by the belief in countries like China and Vietnam that it has important medicinal properties. The lucrative trade has now attracted criminal gangs who use sophisticated technology such as night vision goggles to kill their quarry. Read more: bbc.co.uk
