Kazakhstan’s mysterious sleep illness village claims first cat victim

A cat has become the first non-human victim of a mysterious sleeping condition affecting a small village in Kazakhstan. Residents of Kalachi village have complained of narcoleptic fits since 2013, sometimes remaining asleep for several days at a time. Most recently, one villager’s cat became a victim of the condition, apparently falling down in sleep and ‘snoring like a human’. The cat’s owner and her mother both previously suffered from the sleeping disorder. The condition has been investigated by doctors and scientists, but so far no explanation has been found.
