BA has apologised to a TV presenter following his footage showing “filthy” conditions he experienced inside a first class cabin during a flight.

Former BBC World news presenter and current Bloomberg anchor, Owen Thomas, said he had saved £9000 to go on his “trip of a lifetime” to St Lucia.

However, his flight was marred by the filthy surroundings which showed marked and grubby surfaces. He uploaded a 30-second video to YouTube and Twitter to prove his point the day after his journey.

“It is absolutely filthy,” Thomas says in the clip, the Daily Telegraph reports. “You see marks here which you can scrape off with your finger. You can see the stains down here.”

He pulled no punches when he went on: “It’s when you open your seat, the real horror begins. This is first class. This is British Airways first class. It’s disgusting.”

A BA spokesman said they had contacted Mr Thomas to apologise. “We are sorry on this occasion that we have fallen short of our usual high standards,” he said.
