Maltese dinner prepared using 200-year-old shopping list
A special dinner is to be served at Malta’s Maritime Museum on Friday, created from ingredients found on a shopping list that dates from 1794. The meal to be recreated is pigeon pie and kawlata (soup) with pig trotters, which was originally prepared for a group of corsairs (state-sanctioned pirates) who were quarantined on the Manoel Island after capturing and bringing back to Malta a haul of Ottoman ships.
