Rome’s authorities have announced a proposal to raise the tax on tourists staying in five-star hotels to €10 per day. The same tax was raised from €3 to €7 in September last year. The Italian Hotel Association has expressed its concern at the increase, pointing out that most other European cities do not levy a tourist tax, or charge a far less significant amount.
