Meteorologists warn vog expected in Hawaii

Meteorologists in Hawaii say a thick layer of vog, or volcanic haze from the eruption of nearby Kilauea, will last a few days in East Hawai’i, the Big Island. Residents describe the vog’s odour as ‘sulfuric’ and ‘reminiscent of a barbecue grill gone unattended too long.’ Forecasters say the vog, which has settled on the island due to trade wind disruptions, might last until Friday.
