Portlanders lament loss of airport carpet

Visitors to and residents of Portland are mourning the loss of the frequently photographed carpet covering the floors of the Portland International Airport, which is due to be upgraded this month. The abstract blue-green carpet was installed in the 1980s and contained shapes that represented ‘the airport’s runways and aircraft’. The new design is a riff on the same theme, according to the design team, but modified to include ‘organic and man-made shapes found within the surrounding areas of PDX’. The old carpet will be given away, used in airport promotions and recycled. Read more: jaunted.com
