Nepal’s last ‘car porter’ recalls carrying Mercedes Benz into the Himalaya

The last surviving ‘car porter’ in Nepal has given an interview describing his experiences carrying luxury automobiles into the land-locked Himalayan nation for the playboy rulers of Nepal. During the 1930s, when the former kingdom first opened to the outside world, a series of luxury cars were carried by hand to Kathmandu, which at the time was not connected to anywhere else by road. The first roads in Nepal were actually built for the Ranas to zip around in their newly delivered automobiles. Read more: uk.businessinsider.com
