Michelangelo’s David to be protected by earthquake-proof plinth

Following the recent cluster of minor earthquakes that has hit the region of Tuscany, the Italian government has announced it will be spending €200,000 on a new earthquake-proof plinth for Michelangelo’s famous sculpture of David in the Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence. Though the recent spate of earthquakes didn’t harm David, or any of Tuscany’s other treasures, the statue’s ankles were recently found to have many tiny fractures, meaning that it is at increased risk of collapse.
