Tourists in Bangkok ‘fined’ for not showing ID

A growing number of tourists are allegedly being stopped by police in Bangkok and forced to pay ‘on the spot fines’ if unable to produce identification. Tourists are advised to always carry their passports in Thailand, where it is an offence not to be in possession of photographic identification. However, it is not legal for authorities to demand upfront fines from tourists for failure to produce documents. Read more: phuketwan.com
