A planned Noah’s Ark-themed attraction in northern Kentucky has had $18 million worth of potential tax breaks pulled by the state for its policy of only employing people who believe in creationism. The Ark Encounter theme park, which is due to open in 2016, is being developed by the Answers in Genesis (AIG), an organisation that asks its employees to sign a statement including a belief in creationism and the flood. Kentucky Tourism, Arts and Heritage officials have told the organisation in a letter on Wednesday that it would not approve tax incentives because the proposal for the park had changed from a tourist attraction to one that would promote the AIG’s religious beliefs. ‘State tourism tax incentives cannot be used to fund religious indoctrination or otherwise be used to advance religion,’ the letter stated.
