Last French hostage freed in Mali after three years in captivity

Serge Lazarevic, France’s last remaining hostage, has arrived back in France to a welcome from his family and French President Francois Hollande. Mr Lazarevic was kidnapped with fellow Frenchman Philippe Verdon in Mali in November 2011. Militants from al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) killed Mr Vernon last year. At one point there were no fewer than 14 French nationals being held in West Africa by Islamists – Mr Hollande says there are now no more French hostages anywhere in the world. Read more: bbc.co.uk
