Delhi to ban all online taxi booking services

The government in Delhi has banned all online-taxi booking services following accusations of rape against a driver for the online taxi company Uber in the city. From today, only licensed radio-taxi companies will be permitted to operate in Delhi, and the government has issued an advisory to all states in India recommending a similar ban nationwide. India is extremely conscious of negative publicity over violence against women following a string of high-profile assaults, and many locals are claiming that the ban is more about protecting India’s image overseas than protecting women inside India.
