Holiday season begins with lighting of the Rockefeller tree

Representing Christmas in New York since the days of the Great Depression, the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree will have its lights switched on tonight in a ceremony which will also include the voices of Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey and Cyndi Lauper. The 85 ft tall Norwegian spruce has traveled from Pennsylvania to the heart of Manhattan and has been decorated with 45,000 coloured bulbs. The ceremony starts at 8pm and the tree will be displayed until 7 January 2015. Read more: abcnews.go.com
