World's largest floating Christmas tree lights up Rio

The holiday season kicked off in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday with the annual lighting of the world’s largest floating Christmas tree. The 542-ton tree was lit up by 3.1m micro light bulbs in front of 200,000 spectators. At 278 feet tall, the tree features 2150 strobe effects and 100 LED reflectors. First erected in 1996, the annual tree lighting ceremony has become the third largest tourist event in the city. Read more: theguardian.com
