Riga Zoo announces birth of rare tiger cubs

Keepers at Riga Zoological Garden in Latvia have revealed that two rare Amur tiger cubs have been born there. The cubs, which have been named Tors and Odins, were actually born in August but the zoo have kept the tigers’ arrival secret until now as their mother had rejected her previous litter. Only around 500 Amur tigers remain in the wild – fewer than the number in captivity around the world – and it’s hoped that the pair can contribute to a worldwide conservation programme to protect the species.
