Cuba to welcome Broadway after 50-year hiatus

The musical, Rent, is set to debut on the Cuban stage this December, making it the first Broadway show to grace the Communist state with a full cast, musicians and production elements since the 1959 revolution brought Fidel Castro to power. The production will be led by a cast of 15 Cuban actors and directed by the Cuban-American actor Andy Señor Jr, who starred in the show on Broadway and has directed a series of travelling productions of the show. They were invited to stage Rent in Cuba by the Caribbean nation’s culture ministry after several previous failed attempts to get approval to produce a show on Cuban soil. Read more: telegraph.co.uk
