Costa Rica says adios to on-the-ground traveller airport tax

Travellers will no longer have to pay a separate airport tax before leaving Costa Rica.

The $29 airport exit tax imposed on travellers flying out of Costa Rica will be rolled into the cost of airline tickets from December. At present, travellers have to make the payment separately at a special counter in San José’s airport, at Bancrédito bank branches or at travel agencies across the city before checking in for their flight. The tax has been enforced since 2003.
