Bus powered by human and food waste can go 186 miles

Forget the big red bus as Britain welcomes a new eco-friendly model with an usual source of fuel.

The UK’s first bus to run only on human and food waste has started operating between Bristol Airport and Bath. The eco-friendly bio-bus runs on methane generated at a sewage treatment works, and can travel up to 186 miles on one tank. It is ‘actually powered by people living in the local area, including quite possibly those on the bus itself’ says the bus company – a tank of gas takes the annual waste of about five people to produce.
