Spanish archaeologists to excavate site in search for the body of playwright Garcia Lorca

Archaeologists in Granada will spend the next 10 days excavating a mass grave in the hope of finding the remains of poet and playwright Federico Garcia Lorca. The author is believed to have been executed by Franco’s nationalist firing squads in 1936 but his body has never been found. Last year radar was used to uncover what appears to be a mass grave in the city and campaigners are hoping to find remains of some of the tens of thousands of people to go missing under Franco’s rule.
