Amnesty slams UAE for human rights violations ahead of F1

Amnesty have released a critical report on the UAE a few days before Abu Dhabi is due to host the Formula One Grand Prix. The human rights organisation’s deputy director Hassiba Hadj Sahraoui said: ‘Millions of spectators from across the world are expected to tune in to watch the Abu Dhabi Formula One Grand Prix this weekend – yet most of them will have little clue about the ugly reality of life for activists in the UAE.’ The report claims there has been an extreme crackdown on dissidents involving torture and forced disappearances.
