Catalans vote for independence from Spain

More than 80% of participants in Sunday’s unofficial ballot voted for Catalonia’s independence from Spain. Over 1.6 million Catalans voted ‘yes’ to independence, in the symbolic but widely attended vote. The central government in Madrid called the event ‘an act of political propaganda’.
