World’s ‘hippest’ festival begins in Iceland

The Iceland Airwaves festival has begun in Reykjavík. The event, which was first held in 1999, is ‘the hippest long weekend on the annual music-festival calendar’, according to Rolling Stone. Performers include Caribou, War on Drugs, Jungle, Future Islands and Árstíðir. The festival, which takes place at venues around the city, is sold out, but also features hundreds of free gigs.
