Aviation experts issue warning on India flight number confusion

Aviation experts in India have issued a warning that flights are operating from major airports around the country with almost identical flight numbers, causing dangerous confusion when instructions are issued by air traffic control. Flights XY2460 and XY460 arrive into Mumbai within five minutes of each other, and air traffic controllers have identified numerous other flights operating with similar numbers at similar times. Department heads have called for the Director General of Civil Aviation to overhaul the way flight call signs are assigned in the country to reduce the risk of flights responding to the wrong instructions.
