New research finds Peruvian Amazon has suffered vast deforestation

New research by the Instituto del Bien Comun, a Lima-based non-governmental organization that promotes indigenous rights and environmental stewardship, shows that 1.42 million hectares (3.5 million acres) of land in Peru’s  Amazon has suffered deforestation. Further research shows that 25% of the land that has been cut down, was forest on indigenous territory or protected natural areas. Read more: peruviantimes.com
