The wreck of a German U-boat sunk during World War II’s Battle of the Atlantic has been found lying on the ocean floor 30 miles off the coast of North Carolina. The U-576 submarine was discovered only 240 yards from an American merchant ship from the same era, meaning the site is an important battle ground from the time. All 45 crew members from the U-boat were lost, whereas no casualties were sustained on the merchant vessel. The wreck site is now protected by international law and considered a war grave.
