Authorities consider Golden Gate Bridge tolls

Car drivers already pay to cross the Golden Gate Bridge if heading south into San Francisco, and now officials are deciding whether to extend the fees to include pedestrians and cyclists. Directors of the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District argue that the toll is needed to help fill a budget gap, while opponents say any charge will discourage people from taking the healthy option of walking or cycling, pushing more visitors into vehicles.
