If you think the plague is only to be found in history books, think again. A 12-year-old contracted the disease while on a family trip to Yosemite back in July and authorities are looking into exactly where the infection could have occurred.

The boy camped in the national park while on holiday with his parents, and is the first person to catch the disease in California in nine years. It’s thought that fleas on rodents, including squirrels, are how bubonic plague is transmitted. The boy is now recovering at home in Los Angeles. Read more: laist.com
