Tauranga City Airport is actually across the harbour in Mt Maunganui. Air New Zealand operates direct daily flights to Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

Coaches stop near the i-SITE on Wharf St.

InterCity destinations include Auckland ($22, 3¾ hours, three daily), Hamilton ($17, 1¾ hours, two daily), Taupo (from $22, three hours, two daily), Napier ($24, six hours, daily) and Wellington ($38, 9½ hours, daily).

Mana Bus has coaches to/from Auckland (from $15, 3½ hours, five daily), Hamilton ($13, two hours, daily), Katikati (from $15, 35 minutes, two daily) and Rotorua ($12, 1½ hours, daily).

Baybus has services to Mt Maunganui ($3.40, 28 minutes, every 15 minutes), Papamoa ($3.40, 30 minutes, hourly), Rotorua ($12.20, 1½ hours, two daily), Whakatane ($16, two hours, most days) and Katikati ($8.20, 50 minutes, two daily).

Car

If you’re heading to Cambridge on SH29, the Takitimu Dr toll road costs $1.80 per car. Heading east to Whakatane or south to Rotorua, there's also the option of the Tauranga Eastern Link ($2 per car), which begins near Papamoa. In both cases, free but slower alternative routes are possible. Tolls need to be paid online at www.nzta.govt.nz.
