Hello, we are a group of 3 ladies in our early 60's who are reasonably fit and wanting to do a 3-4 day walk on the South Island and are looking for suggestions as to which walk will provide us it's the most spectacular scenery! We have looked at some organised tours that include accommodation and meals but they are very expensive! We are aware that we can do the walk to independently but don't think we'd cope with carrying all our gear, food etc! Also, we are flying into Queenstown from Oz…
My wife and I will be on a self guided road trip of the South Island from 10\30-11/17 this year. Arriving and departing from Christ Church. We are big hikers from Montana, USA and have decided rather than hiking the Milford, Routeburn et al, opting for great day hikes and any recommendations on lodging, road routes and hikes. If possible we’re hoping to reduce our stays to 3-5 during our 3 week visit but open to all suggestions.
Much thanks. Montana traveler.
I am applying for a family visitor visa (2 adults + 2 kids) for New Zealand (we fly out in November) and one of the requirements is that we have to show proof of funds for accommodation. We are in The Netherlands.
The criteria states that I can apply for the whole family under 1 application. It also states:
"You must have at least NZ $1,000 per month, or NZ $400 per month if you’ve already paid for your accommodation."
Can anybody please confirm if the NZ $1000 per month…
I'm traveling with my family to New Zealand from the Netherlands in November, we are taking a year out and staying there for a year. The problem is it doesn't look possible to book a return ticket, most travel companies/airlines say it is not possible to book a year in advance.
Would welcome some advice, should I just book a single ticket for us and the return flight later? For the NZ visa we need to either show we have a return ticket or have the money to buy one (this is no issue). Would…
I (38 years old) will be traveling with my nephew (16 years old) to New Zealand in late June for fives days. We will spend at least two days in Wellington, as we have family there (my cousin moved to New Zealand and now lives there with his wife and three kids). We will likely then do something on our own for three days. Any suggestions? As for what we are interested in, just anything worth seeing. We have heard that New Zealand is beautiful, but obviously we can't see it all…
I am an 18 year old Austrian girl who has a problem with working in New Zeeland. Next year I want to work in New Zeeland, but unforunately there are just 100 working holiday visa for all Austrian and I did not get one because they are taken within seconds. Therefore I would like to ask if someone has an idea or experience how i can work in New Zeeland withaout a working visa. My actual plan was to work as an au-pair but i am open for everything!
Thank you in advance you will be my lifesafer…
We are heading to the south island by ferry at the end of May and plan on picking up a car and seeing some of the sights before flying out of Queenstown eleven days later.
Here's a rough schedule we've devised so we won't be spending too many hours in a car and hopefully have time to explore, walk and enjoy the journey. Any feedback/suggestions/thoughts are most welcomed since we're playing it by ear.
Day one - overnight in Blenheim after picking up car in Picton
Day two - overnight in…
Kaikora was on our to do list for our NZ trip because of the whale watching, surfing opportunities and beaches.......BUT I am wondering if we can get similar experiences in the North Island somewhere?

-Rent a car in Christchurch and do:
-Drop off car and do the Ferry over to Wellington
