This isolated and peaceful lodge, almost midway between Queenstown and Glenorchy, is a whimsical gem. From the toilet-cistern aquariums (complete with fish) to the huge garden with 3000 roses, monkey puzzle trees and the Swiss owner's own sculptural work, you won't have seen a place like it. There are two rooms in the main house and a unit out the back.
If you're not staying, you can still wander the gardens ($15), which straddle the 45th parallel.
