Unleash your adventurous side on this full-day tour that will take you hiking on the famous Routeburn Track, one of New Zealand's 7 great walks, and canyoning in a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Descend the canyon by zipline, abseiling/rappelling waterfalls, plunging into natural pools, floating down narrow passageways and cascading down chutes, all in beautiful natural surroundings. Great for those adventurous explorers. Minimum 15 years.
Check in at the Adventure Centre, right in the heart of Queenstown at least 15-minutes prior to departure. Lockers are available for use to secure your belongings during your trip. Your guide for the day will then give you a short trip briefing all necessary paperwork will be completed, then you’ll be ready to begin your adventure! Drive for approximately 15-minutes to the purpose built operations base where you will be fitted out in a wetsuit, booties, a helmet and all necessary safety equipment including harnesses. You will then begin a spectacular 40-minute drive along the shores of Lake Wakatipu, into the Routeburn Valley, Mount Aspiring National Park. Once you are geared up at the Routeburn Hut, you'll set off on a 25-minute hike along the world famous Routeburn Track. Then it’s time for some hard out adventure. Once everyone is ready the trip leader will give an in-depth safety briefing and explain about the canyon. You will then embark on a 2.5 to 3-hour decent of the canyon. A number of Lord of the Rings scenes were filmed in this cave, so fans might recognise a few spots! As you start your descent through the canyon, you’ll be abseiling, leaping off rock ledges into foaming pools, and swimming/sliding down the canyon stream. After your canyoning experience you will be provided a full picnic lunch to enjoy in the beautiful setting. This canyon is suited to people that have a good level of fitness, high water confidence and a real sense of adventure! The minimum age is 15, and children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
